Saturday Feb 1 Practice at Pineland

The Gould Event for Saturday Feb 1 has been canceled.
WE will have practice at Pineland from 9 to 11. There is no bus so we will meet at Pineland.

We had a very successful Western Maine Conference race tonight. All skiers impressed the coaches with their focus before and after the race and how hard they challenged themselves during the race.
This was the last of the WMC seasonal races. We have one more race before the championship races begin next week.
This Saturday Brunswick and Freeport will travel back to Bethel for a fun skier cross style race on the Gould ski trails. This is a 2pm afternoon race so the bus is at 11:30, Saturday Feb 1.

There will be different styles of "obstacles" within the 2.5k loop, skied twice.

Next Wednesday Feb 5 is the first WMC Championship race. It is Scheduled to be at Libby Hill but that may change depending how the snow holds out.
Since this is a WMCC race the start time will be earlier than usual. Girls start at 2pm and the boys start at 3pm. The Wednesday race is classic, interval start.
The Saturday race, Feb 8 is skate and a pursuit format.

It would be really great to have snacks for the team to eat on the way back from the race if parents are able to pull something together before next Wednesday. And, thank you!!
After the final WMCC race on Saturday Feb 8 we will announce the skiers who will make up the Freeport state meet team. Hard to believe it is almost time for states.

Let me, Coach Dyer or Coach Marion know if you have any questions.

The best thing to make your skis faster for states is to wax your skis everyday.

January/February Callendars

I just added a race February 1 at Gould Academy. This is a fun SKiCross race for middle school, high school and parents/coaches. It is a full 5k with 2 x 2.5k laps with obstacles along the way. It is a fun race so parents come out and try it with the middle and high school skiers.
They will provide a bonfire and snacks after the race so we will stay till after dark, getting back to Freeport between 7 and 7:30pm.

I also added 2 additional days off to the calendar, one January 17 and the other Feb 13. This fits into the schedule as we go into exam week and the bigger races of the season.

The race season has begun with Telstar relays yesterday. It was great to see everyone pushing hard even though the conditions were challenging.

This coming Saturday, Jan 11 the entire team will be attending the Roy Varney Classic race at Leavitt high school. This race was renamed for Roy, a member of the Leavitt ski team who passed away last June. It would be great to have everyone at the race to honor him by doing something he loved, skiing and racing. Please let me know if you will not be at the Jan 11th race.

We will not be doing the Maranacook race on the 18th as that is the weekend before exam week. We already have a race on Monday so Saturday the 18th will be a practice at Pineland.

I posted the January and February calendars for reference. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Parents please join us at any and all races if you can come out for some great racing.
